The other day I posted about new creative materials available for the Lousy T-Shirt series. I also shared with you a few "reviews" from churches that have done the series. Here are a couple more. And, remember, if you want to do this series it is ABSOLUTELY FREE. I know that we at Forefront and have really appreciated it when we've been able to use something from another church, thereby saving us the work of having to create something ourselves. So this is our way of trying to give back. Here are those reviews:
"We had a great experience using the Lousy T-shirt series at our church. As the weeks went on we could see our people really catching the vision to cast off their "lousy t-shirts" and enjoy the adventure of faith god intended us to live. Because of the programming resources on the website our creative team had a huge jump start on the series each week. We took advantage of the small group studies so that all of our groups were studying the same curriculum. We also used the daily devotions provided on the website. We sold out of several cases of the books we provided at our resource table. We're looking forward to Vince's next book and series that we can challenge our congregation with!" (Tim Cole, Velocity Church)
"I lead a small congregation of a church ... most of the congregation is old. As a young pastor, I sometimes struggle to develop message series that will touch their lives in a way as to reignite their passion for Christ. I have to say the book and materials that you have produced in "I Became A Christian and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt" have truly been a blessing from God. I wasn't sure at first how they might respond to it, but have been overwhelmed by the comments that I have received. I preach to people who have been Christians for decades and have been in the same old religious rut for many years. The themes of Lousy T-Shirt help to to explore possible reasons why they have lost their fire and explores ways to get it back. However, part of the beauty of the series is that it is written is a way that it touches the hearts, not only mature Christians, but that of new believers and non-believers alike. I will be ever thankful for the materials that you all have put together that work to enhance the message... I pray that many churches will incorporate this series into their churches soon!" Our adult team at Northwood Church in Keller, TX will be starting this study next weekend. We will be doing it without the rest of the church so we won't have the sermon series to piggy back off of. I will let you know how it goes.
Cool! (What exactly is an "adult team"?) Did you get the DVD with the videos and discussion questions and everything? If not, you can order it at www.lousytshirtbook.com
I love your church!
'Adult Team' is our name for 'Small Group'. Our 'teams' pastor feels men are more open to being involved in 'teams' than they are 'groups'. Either way, it is the same thing.
I did get a CD. I was not aware there was a DVD option (was that a typo on your part?). A DVD would be much better since we have TV/DVD combos at church. Is there a DVD?
I'm a little confused. You ordered it from the website? I think it should have been a DVD. There are videos on it (about ten), so doesn't it have to be a DVD? Does whatever you got have videos?
So are all your adult small groups doing the book series? Are people going to be reading the book as well? If so, do you know that you can get like 50 to 60% discounts if you buy them in bulk?
Ours is the only adult team doing the study. I am plugging it and hope to increase that count, but we are the guinea pigs.
Kevin Colon mentioned in one of his comments on your blog(April 1) that he had a "youth group up to do some community service stuff during Spring Break" and that they "look like they'll be doing the series soon". Those are the youth from our church (Northwood where Bob Roberts is the pastor). We did purchase enough of the books to get the discount. Our 'adult team' used about 12 of them and the rest went over to the youth leaders. Hopefully they will use them as Kevin indicated.
As for the DVD/CD controversy. They did send a CD. This has the videos in the windows media format so they can be played on a computer. They are not in a format that can be played in DVD player. This is what I expected based on the information on the Baker Books site, but when you mentioned a DVD I got excited. One of our team members is going to try and convert the videos to a DVD format for our study, otherwise we will use a computer (but he is good at this type of thing so I expect it to work).
Sorry for the long winded response.
